Colin McRae 1968 – 2007
It was terrible to be given the news that my good friend Colin and his 5 year-old son Johnny, died in a helicopter-crash Saturday evening. Colin was one of my closest friends and it is thanks to him I have achieved so much in rallying.
Colin’s passion for motorsport made him the most popular driver in the world, and it is unbelievable that he is no longer among us. I am so glad I got to know Colin.
Pernilla and I send our deepest condolences to his wife Alison and their daughter Hollie. Our thoughts are also with the families of Ben Porcelli and Graeme Duncan, who also died in this terrible accident.
If you feel like writing something here for Colin and his family, I will pass on all of yours condolences to Colin’s family.

The moment that I will keep in my memory forever is Argentina 1998. He broke the rear right suspension climbing to Julio Césare. I was in the following stage that year, El Cóndor. I remember that him and Nicky (Grist) fixed it hiting a part with big rocks before the stage I was.
It was impressive, amazing watching him going down from El Cóndor to Copina….. He was flying that day.
All Argentinean fans will miss him a lot.
My condolences to his family and friends…. This is the 4th time I cry for rally: Jorge Raúl Recalde, Michael Beef Park, Richard Burns and now, Colin McRae.

I’m truly happy I saw you live in Sweden couple of times, you did really stand out with you’re driving.

Selv om han ikke har vunnet flest VM løp og tittler er det absolutt pÃ¥ sin plass Ã¥ si at Colin McRae var en tidenes mest populære rallyførere med den mest ekstreme og publikumsvennlige kjørestilen av dem alle.
Han har ogsÃ¥ fÃ¥tt oppkalt deler av fartsetapper etter seg som f.eks “Colin’s Crest” i Sverige, mÃ¥ nÃ¥ dette navnet bli fredet for alltid pÃ¥ dette hoppet, ingen satset like helhjertet som han nettopp der, man kan jo ogsÃ¥ tenke over at selv om han ikke har rekorder som mestvinnende eller den mest suksessfulle fører er alikevel Colin den største.

Jag kommer aldrig att glömma Dig; Du vilde Skotte!! Jag mins det som igår när jag 1988 stod vid Borrsjön och tittad på en vild skotte med namnet Colin McRae som dundrade förbi i en Sierra Cosworth med endast 3 växlar kvar i. Det var allra första gången. Sen dess har det passerat många år och många rallyn.
SÃ¥ smÃ¥ningom ockuperade “Du Colin”, all min lediga tid; helt klart till fruns förträt.
Jag blev helt “spelgalen” när Du släppte ditt fantastiska spel. I mina ögon tidernas bästa datorspel. Vila i frid och ta han där uppe med pÃ¥ en virtuell tur över “vÃ¥rat Colins Crest”!

Dette er utrolig trist! Colin var en av de rallyførerene jeg har sett mest opp til. Hans publikumsvennelige kjørestil og hans gode forhold til publikun og fans har gjort han til den mest populære føreren av alle!

Cant believe what has happened, i just cant. I grew up watching you, Colin and Richard driving against each other on tv in Ireland. I regard you three as the the ONLY three Fans Heroes of motorsport, if you know what I mean. I followed the WRC since 2002 when I was in school, and I played the ‘Divorce Game’ :) (Colin McRae Rally) as you once called it in Rally XS magazine, when I was young. Now Richard and Colin are dead, and lets not forget Beef, your other best friend. The WRC was once something I couldnt get away from on TV, staying up to watch the highlights on channel 4. Now the World Rally Championship means nothing to me.. also due to Subaru only being a shadow of its former self, which isnt your fault. Petter… Stay Safe! R.I.P. Colin & Johnny Gavin McRae (Cant believe you are gone Colin, my Idol, my hero.) R.I.P. Ben Porcelli, Graeme Duncan. Alison, stay strong, remember your Husband as being the absolute Number One in Motorsport, he was the best, he truly was. Colin , such a fine driver at amazingly fast speed inches away from trees, like all rally drivers, but i find it a great shock and loss that he lost his life and his son and friends lost theres.

It’s just so unbelievable that someone like Colin has passed away so young.
He touched our lives, and had a direct impact on our lives by sharing his passion with us in his rally videogames. That’s one of Colin’s many legacies, as it was also with Richard.
I rejoice in the fact that they live on in that realm, and that, if only an image of him, we can go for a ride and compete with the man himself. Thank you for everything, Colin!

With the loss of Colin McRae, a great ambassadure and sportsman for motorsport will be missed. Stig Blomkvist,Hannu Mikkola, Ari Vatanen, Marku Alen, Juha Kankunen, Carlos Sainz,Sebastian Loeb, Petter Solberg, Marcus Gronholm. All great sportmans. But nobody has managed to sell the rally sport in a way as Colin did. It’s a sad period for all motorheads in the world. I’ve seen Colin in action in WRC, Le Mans as well as ROC. He was always so determined to compete and deliver a top result. I’m sure that you will be missed not only by your family, but from fans world wide. Hopefully another star will shine from your family in the future. Jimmy, Colin and Alistare has all given us so many exiting moments. I hope a new star of this noble family will shine in the future.

I am sorry for your’s and the McRae family’s lost. He was one of my favorite drivers second only to you. Being an american we get little coverage of the WRC, but I became hooked on it while watching both of you drive to the limited. The WRC has not and will not be the same without him.

I am very sorry for the loss of Colin, Johnny, Ben, and Graeme. Colin must have been a great friend. He had such a warm personality, and always seemed to have a joke or two at his disposal. He was such a great personality for the sport; someone who could be remembered for his behavior outside of the cockpit as well as inside. You, Phil, Nicky G, Beef, and Colin always put a smile on my face when giving interviews, which is why I love the WRC. One of my fondest images of Colin was seeing you two in your traditional attire; Colin wearing a kilt was definitely something I wasn’t expecting.
As a driver, Colin was absolutely magical. So entertaining, so inspiring. Everytime he got behind the wheel, you knew he was going to give it his all. He only had two speeds: stopped and maximum attack (to quote Tommi).
The world of motorsport, and the WRC in particular, has tragically lost another one of its sons. The sport will never be the same without Colin. He will be deeply missed.

I grew up watching Colin on TV of all the wrc events.. then came the games of His,and the official on board dvds presenting some of Colins secret.. he is the greatest rally hero to me and to all of the rally fans I know in Hungary. we are badly shocked by the tragedy and would like to send our deepest condolences to Colin’s Family and the families of Ben and Graeme.
