Fuji Heavy Industries in Japan has decided to withdraw from the 2009 World Rally Championship.
– I got information about the decision earlier today and need to evaluate the situation before I make any public statement. I understand that media and the public would like to have answers to all their questions right now, but I ask you all to be patient and wait until tomorrow, says Petter Solberg.

Hei det er en sorgens dag for WRC og oss som liker å se på deg og sirkuset rundt WRC.
Dette blir litt merkelig kun 2 fabrikkteam som skal konkurere….. Blir det noe igjen da…?
Jeg har altid fulgt med på WRC og det sirkuset rundt det men entusiasmen og gløden kom først virkelig når du Petter kom med med ditt vinnende vesen og glød for det du gjør.
Som det jeg sa til deg når du ringte på min 30 års dag etter avtale med min kone. så har jeg i mang et fora brukt gløden og entusiasmen din som eksempel for ståpåvilje.
Kom deg med videre ellers blir ikke det å sitte på WRC sine sider løpsdagene og følge plaseringer like interesant.

Veldig synd for hele WRC at SWRT nå trekker seg fra rally VM. Regner med at hele rally-verden vil ha deg med neste år også. Jeg personlig håper du velger å kjøre for Adapta World Rally Team til neste sesong. Hadde vært et kjempeløft for norsk motorsport med et helnorsk rally team med 2 norske toppsjåfører i WRC. Petter, I’m really sorry about the bad news today! You have been loyal to Subaru for many years when the car was not good and you could have looked for a more competitive drive, so I think it’s terrible they make such a shock decision without any warning… Good luck in finding a drive for next year! I’m sure you will find something. We all know what rallying means to you and it would be an impossible thought that you weren’t driving next year.
i met petter in finland this year take all the time you need boss we wont be goin any where. but just a sugestion, go borrow an example of your favorite rally car and enter some rally somewhere just for fun. when you realise why u love this sport then you will know what to do

I still remember when we were talking in Catalunya and I asked you about next season and new dampers.
I know it’s a shocking surprise and I understand you need some time to think about it and I think it should be the best if you want to make a clever decision.
Talk with other drivers about it, maybe they can give you solutions that you hadn’t realised.
Don’t think about it like a loss but like a fresh start.
I am sure that you will be running again soon no matter which car,but again in a competitive level and having fun like the old times.
Until then,we will be here supporting you 110%, like always!!!

Sat here in the sun watching the BBC Worldservice and nearly dropped my beer. A sad sad day for a team that was admired and loved across the globe. You have shown Subaru more commitment than any other driver would have and I know that they won’t have taken this decision lightly but it is a hard decision to swallow.
The fact is that Subaru and Mitsubishi’s road cars have gone soft and WRC may no longer be the right vehicle for marketing their products. A damn shame to us fans but only time will tell if their softer cars can compete with the Focus’s of this world (I doubt it).
Best of luck in the future, this might be the time to get back into a really competitive car next year. As Monty Python once said “always look on the bright side of life” and having met you I know you will.

Even when countless people around the world are losing their positions because of the economy slowdown, its hard to believe that it could hit the very top end of rallying. You have been the most loyal driver to just about any team in world rally history and the greater rallying community know this. Your commitment to the sport is only over shadowed by your renowned personality unquestionable driving ability and this, together with your massive fanbase, will no doubt secure your position in the sport for years to come. Never forget you and Phil are World Champions and that will never be taken from you. Keep focused on the road ahead and it’ll all work out in the end. I look forward to seeing you driving on the WRC stages in the very near future!

I can’t believe it……i’ve just persuaded my partner to buy a new subaru…and the reason because of you Petter! We met you and the rest of the team in Cyprus a few years ago and ever since I have been a dedicated Petter fan and have been a loyal follower of the SWRT hospitality via Rally Travel. I only hope that you have a drive in 2009…i can’t imagine going to a Rally without seeing you there. I am sure there will still be many subaru shirts,caps and flags still being proudly worn at all the rallies next season.
