Generations for Peace
Petter Solberg reaffirmed his commitment as a global ambassador for the sport for peace initiative during last weekend’s World Rally Championship event in Jordan when he was updated on its incredible growth by founder, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein.
- Generations For Peace is an inspirational organisation having a real impact, Petter Solberg said after the meeting. – Their Generations For Peace Pioneers are living in communities facing very difficult situations of conflict. But they each have an amazing positive spirit, which helps them overcome challenges and gather support to make a real difference in their community. I know my world of Rally driving is so different to theirs, but they’ve got this same ‘anything’s possible’ attitude and the determination to make things happen. I find that really inspiring. I’m really proud to support them and to help to spread the word about what they’re doing.”
Generations For Peace has trained more than 500 delegates from 46 countries and territories on three continents, through its intensive Generations For Peace Pioneer Certification Programme. Delegates then become Certified Generations For Peace Pioneers when they pass on their knowledge and skills to others in their community. Through this cascading process they have trained another 4,200 leaders of youth in their communities and in turn have reached more than 62,000 children with their programmes. During 2011, Generations For Peace is moving to the next phase of its evolution and global expansion, with even greater emphasis on commitment to delegates and Peace Pioneers and their programmes on the ground in communities experiencing conflict. They will be deepening the knowledge and skills of Peace Pioneers through an Advanced Training Programme and are supporting cutting-edge interdisciplinary research through the Generations For Peace Institute, in order to identify and disseminate best practices and to demonstrate and increase the use and impact of sport for sustainable peace and development.
